Install Wall-Mounted TVs and Touch Screens Correctly; Minimize Interference with Safe Passage

Posted by proforma on January 5, 2011

Offices, labs, warehouses and operations facilities are becoming increasingly cluttered with wall-mounted TVs, computer touch screens cabinets, or other equipment that pose a safety problem if they interfere with human motion, especially critical in situations where personnel must exit quickly.

Proforma Safety recommends that IF wall-mounted TVs, monitoring systems or cabinets must be located in passageways or corridors, they should not project more than six inches from the wall. In support, we reference the National Fire Protection Association’s Life Safety Code®, which advises that wall-mounted items should be
2) Shorter than 36 inches
3) Distanced from other projecting items by at least 48 inches
4) Installed at least 40 inches above the floor
5) Installed where corridors exceed 6 feet in width
