DOI Secretary Salazar Acts on BOEMRE Report

us-deptoftheinterior-sealSecretary of the Interior Ken Salazar has allowed deepwater drilling to resume, following the report from Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, Regulation and Enforcement (BOEMRE) Director Michael R. Bromwich. Salazar is directing Bromwich to ensure that each operator demonstrate it has blowout containment resources promptly available in the event of an incident. As described in the DOI press release on October 12, 2010: “BOEM will conduct inspections of each deepwater drilling operation for compliance with regulations, including but not limited to the testing of BOPs.”

Child Car Seats Installed Incorrectly More Often Than Thought

childseatThe National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) recently conducted a study in which they evaluated how people installed child car seats. Monitoring Offshore Rigs With Streaming Data

Post Deepwater Horizon, some lawmakers are calling for more inspectors on offshore rigs.

But instead of relying on federal government inspectors physically going on the rigs to check whether they meet requirements, the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, Regulation and Enforcement may rely on government engineers to study streaming data from offshore wells. Read the details here.
