Potential Underreporting of Workplace Injuries, Says GAO

A recent report by the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) says that work-related injuries and illnesses are often being underreported. The report described possible reasons: that employers may not report illnesses and injuries for fear of jeopardizing their chances of winning contract bids, or fear of increasing their workers’ compensation costs, among other reasons.

Another Reason to Look Forward to Retirement

The journal Sleep reports that sleep disturbances decrease after retirement. Those who suffered from depression or mental fatigue prior to retirement enjoyed the greatest reduction. Men also showed a more pronounced postretirement improvement, as did management-level workers, employees who reported high psychological job demands, and people who worked night shifts.

We may be poorer when we retire, but we’ll sleep better.
